How DocuSign OCR Studio Works
DocuSign OCR Studio is a professional-grade, 100% client-side PDF tool that runs entirely inside your web browser. Your documents are never uploaded to any server — all processing is performed locally using three powerful browser technologies: PDF.js for rendering, Tesseract.js WebAssembly for OCR, and pdf-lib for document modification and export.
The Sign tab provides three annotation types: draw a handwritten signature using smooth Bezier-curve rendering on an HTML5 Canvas, upload a custom PNG/JPEG stamp or logo with adjustable opacity, or add typed text in any color and font size. Each annotation is placed interactively via a page thumbnail positioning dialog that converts screen pixels to exact PDF point coordinates.
The OCR tab uses Tesseract.js v5 running as a WebAssembly Web Worker — this means the OCR engine runs in a background thread, keeping the browser UI completely responsive during processing. Supports 12 languages and processes individual pages or entire documents.
The Security tab computes a SHA-256 cryptographic fingerprint of your document using the browser's built-in WebCrypto API — no external library required. This hash can optionally be embedded as a visible watermark seal at any corner or center of the document. Any subsequent change to the file will produce a completely different hash, making tampering immediately detectable.
The Export tab uses pdf-lib to embed all annotations as permanent page content (effectively "flattening" them), optionally embed rich metadata (author, title, creation date, SHA-256 hash), and download the final PDF — all without leaving your browser.
